File Specifications

Print ready PDF files are the preferred format for all customer files. Save in the highest resolution, at least 300 dpi. All color should be in CMYK. (If files or photos are sent as a RGB image, there will be color shift).

If submitting native files, please send in Adobe Creative Suite 6, In Design, Photoshop or Illustrator, version 6 or earlier. Make sure files are packaged properly to include all fonts and images.

Files created in Microsoft, Google docs, or other word processing software must be saved in a PDF format. This will ensure fonts, images, color and formatting do not change from the originals.

Trim is the size of the final dimensions of your print project. For full page documents, this is generally 8.5” x 11”.  Business cards are 3.5” x 2”. Postcards and invitations have a variety of sizes. Digital printers can not print to the edge of the paper, there will be a white border of about .125” around all the sides.

All files should include small lines in the upper and lower corners called “crop marks”. This indicates where the project is to be trimmed.

Safe Area is the area inside the trim. Safe area is a smaller dimension than your final ad size and is important to pay attention to because this is where you should place your most important information within your design. Any content outside of this area is in risk of being cut off!

Safe area on documents or artwork can be as little as .125” within the final document size.

Bleed is a printing term that is used to describe a document which has images or elements that touch the edge of the page, extending beyond the trim edge and leaving no white margin. When a document has bleed, it must be printed on a larger sheet of paper and then trimmed down. If the file has images to the edge, make sure there is at least a .125” bleed and include crop marks in the file.
